Did the Team Buying the Pen Also Fund Its Initial Development?

Change a fictional order and connect a second customer to compare initial development resources with product purchase payments.

New to the space-pen and pencil story?

A familiar story contrasts NASA’s expensive pen development with Soviet pencils. But Fisher’s development, NASA’s testing contribution and later use in both programmes need to be separated.

Use an invented manufacturer and customer Teams A and B. First change A’s order between 2 and 6 units. Then connect B’s order and compare where products go and which team makes each payment.

① Compare Team A’s product payments at two order quantities. ② Connect Team B’s order and check whether the initial development commitment changes hands.

Text, pen icons and transaction diagrams are original. No product photographs, institutional logos, contracts, invoices or source scans are used. Fictional quantities and tokens are not historical amounts, and a product purchase payment is not a customer’s total cost. The model calculates no development-cost recovery, sales income or profit.
